Since 1896 professional cyclists have raced Paris-Roubaix over 50 kilometers of slippery, bone jarring cobbles; also known as "The Hell of The North". This term was used to describe the race when it was run immediately following the end of WW1. The course closely followed the front lines of the war in the North of France, and hence passed through many of the ruins, craters, and destruction along the way, earning its nickname - "The Hell of The North".

The Paris-Roubaix is a race that stands out in modern day cycling and one that sends shivers down the spines of the riders who line up in Compiegne; 55km north of Paris for the spring cobbled classic. It is the one day outside the Tour de France where the whole world watches cycling.

For the riders; while one loves it – he also detests it. It is beautiful yet it is cruel.

In 2007 Stuart O'Grady conquered the dry cobbles to become the first ever Australian to win one of cycling's 'monuments' and in doing so write a chapter into the record books with cycling’s legends. The win was a realization of a childhood dream and to this day he considers it to be the crowning glory of his career - bigger than 3 stage wins at the Tour de France; as big as Olympic gold. The reason - it's the toughest 1 day race of them all - "like a 3 week Tour de France wrapped into one day".

The documentary takes the viewer along the cobbles of the north of France from the perspective of Stuart O’Grady and other legends who played a part in the 115 year history at the Hell of the North.
